How to get to and from the City and the Airport
The Bergstrom International Airport is 10 miles, or 16 kilometres, from downtown Austin. Shuttle buses and taxis are freely available at all times of the day and the journey typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Austin's second airport, the Mueller Municipal Airport, is not used as much these days however there are shuttle buses and taxis on site there to transport you to and from the City or Bergstrom International.
Getting around in Austin
Like most US cities Austin has a very good public transport system that provides a network of services, frequent and efficient, throughout Austin and the surrounding areas. Taxis are also in good supply and the local drivers have plenty of area knowledge which they are happy to impart. Many visitors to Austin prefer to rent a car, as the general area is quite scenic. All the international and national car rental companies have cars available in the City and at the Airports.
